They say dog is man’s best friend. For a good reason: he is! According to a recent AP poll, the dog was voted America’s favorite pet. People have many different reasons for this, but we guarantee that these are the top six reasons why the dog is such a dynamite companion to have.
#6 The Proof Is In The Pudding
Or the history books, anyway. Dogs have been a trusty companion to mankind, dating back to way before anyone ever thought of writing something called a history book. Dogs have guarded camps, families, children, homes. They have herded sheep and cattle. They have helped us hunt so our tummies won’t rumble. And they’ve played with us, loved us, and, ever since some bright fellow decided to take one of those barky, furry animals in as a friend, kept us company on lonely nights.
#5 Comic Relief
Let’s face it, dogs, on the whole, aren’t elegant creatures. They drool, they knock things over, they leave muddy footprints wherever they go. They are major goofballs and we love them for it. Dogs make us laugh. They do silly things and it’s adorable. They fall over things in their haste to get the ball or the Frisbee or the toy. They play silly games like “it’s mine!” Dogs are a four-legged comedy act and it’s great, because we all need a little laughter in our lives.
#4 Loyal Like A …
It doesn’t take much to win a dog over: food, shelter, a little kindness, a pat on the head, and an encouraging word and they’re yours for life. From the biggest dog to the teeniest pooch, they will always be loyal, always protect you and their home. Dogs will sit and wait patiently for their master to return, no matter how long it’s been. And some have even been known to be so loyal as to never leave their master’s grave.
#3 Get Up and Go!
If you’re the type who breaks out into hives at the mere mention of a gym, then a dog is perfect for you. Dogs are living exercise machines. They need to be walked. They love investigating the great outdoors, and you’re the one who’s going to have to go along (and it doesn’t even feel like you’re exercising when you take your dog for a walk). Whether it’s a walk to the park for some Frisbee and fetch, or a little playtime fun inside, you’re also getting in a daily work out of your own, which, as your doctor will tell you, is always a good thing.
But in a positive way. Dogs need their people. You can’t fling some food down and then go away for a day or two. Your dog is like a child. He depends on you for everything. A dog teaches you responsibility and the rewards of caring for a living being who depend on you for their health and well-being. Dogs really are like having children, but without the headaches of then suddenly turning into teenagers.
#1 All They Give is Love
A dog’s love is like a bottomless well. They just keep on giving. And they will show you their love all the time, by jumping all over you when you get home, by sitting in your lap or resting their head in your lap (depending on their doggy size). They will follow you, bound up to you, run around you, and show you their love every and any way they can think of. No one can ever be lonely with a dog in their lives.
So there you have it -- the top six reasons why dogs are dynamite. Tell all your friends.
Woof! It’s Wednesday.
